Judy Boston's appetite for fly-fishing was whetted after reading a magazine article. Then she tried it and was hooked.
"I read an article about fly-fishing in Time magazine in 1989 called 'Zen and the Art of Fly-Fishing' and got interested because it seemed so interesting," said Boston, 54, of Memphis."I found a wonderful mentor here in the late Indie Cocker ham and she advised me to join a local club (The Mid-South Fly Fishers) and get started."
After a trip to Virginia later in the fall of 1989, which included her first fly-fishing experience, she began casting regularly.Today she is a life member and conservation director of the Mid-South Fly Fishers Club.
"I've been fly-fishing ever since and enjoy it more and more," Boston said.
She will be sharing her knowledge today in a seminar entitled "Ladies Fly Fishing" at 5 p.m. at the Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival Fishing Village. The Festival opens today and runs through Sunday, offering outdoor enthusiasts the chance to try a number of activities.
The Fishing Village is one of several villages, including 4x4, Archery, ATV, Biking & Camping, Conservation, Hunting Dog, Shooting Sports and Exhibitor Village.
The Fishing Village will have a little bit of everything - from instruction on fly-casting, bait-casting, spinning basics and even tips on safe boating.

No matter what individuals want to try, Boston said the key is to try it.
"Just getting started and seeing if it is something you want to do," she said.
