A Lewiston native, John graduated from Bowdoin College in 1967. He then graduated cum laude from Villanova Law School, where he also served as a member of the Law Review. He started practicing law in Philadelphia in 1971, and has been practicing in Lewiston since 1975. He is a member of the Bars of both Maine and Pennsylvania. He concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate law, commercial law, estate planning and probate. He was elected Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Council in 1991. John has played an active role with many local non-profit organizations.

John V. Bonneau was born and raised in Lewiston, Maine. He founded the Lewiston law firm of Bonneau & Geismar in 1996 and became a Member of Norman, Hanson & DeTroy in 2008 when the firms merged. His practice is primarily in trusts and estate law, including the administration of probate estates. He also advises businesses and individuals in corporate and commercial law, much of it in the health care sector.

John has been a Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel since 1991, and is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell.
