Anita Bohm: Grant Writer/Senior Program Associate Staff

Anita Bela Bohm is the Grant Writer/Senior Program Associate at Alliance for Justice and is responsible for researching, identifying, and pursuing grant prospects and building relationships with public and private foundations on behalf of the organization's Nonprofit Advocacy Project and the Foundation Advocacy Initiative programs.Before joining AFJ, Anita served as the Grant Writer at DePelchin Children's Center, a multi-service child and family social service center in Houston providing prevention, child welfare, and behavioral health services, heading up the Grant Writing track within its Research and Grants Management department.In this capacity, she was responsible for assessing community needs, researching, identifying and pursuing grant prospects, program development, grant writing and securing/managing state and federal grants and contracts.Prior to that, Anita worked as the Development Writer/Editor for the University of Houston's Office of Development, writing proposals for private funding as well as producing a range of development communications.

Anita is a dedicated human rights activist and has previously served on the Board of Directors of Amnesty International USA and in various leadership positions within the organization.She has been a particularly strong advocate for immigrant and refugee rights, lending her advocacy efforts and grant writing skills to developing the capacity of immigrant communities.During a placement in former Councilmember Gordon Quan's office, she contributed to the establishment of the Mayor's Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs and helped develop and fund a range of programs addressing dynamics among Houston's diverse communities and the challenges and opportunities facing newcomer populations.
