    Anita is a dedicated human rights activist and has previously served on the Board of Directors of Amnesty International USA and in various leadership positions within the organization.She has been a particularly strong advocate for immigrant and refugee rights, lending her advocacy efforts and grant writing skills to developing the capacity of immigrant communities.During a placement in former Councilmember Gordon Quan's office, she contributed to the establishment of the Mayor's Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs and helped develop and fund a range of programs addressing dynamics among Houston's diverse communities and the challenges and opportunities facing newcomer populations.
