The final track, and the album's piece de resistance, is a cover of Scottish folk-singer Eric Bogle's "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda," an emotional first-hand account of an Australian soldier's experience in the Allies' attack on Gallipoli, Turkey, and the subsequent brutal defeat at the hands of the Turkish army, during World War I.
Our narrator starts out the song as a carefree young man who "lived the free life of a rover" Down Under, but his peaceful life is disrupted by the outbreak of WWI.Drafted into the ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corp) forces supporting Great Britain, he sets sail for Suvla Bay in Gallipoli to fight the Turks, who were allied with Germany.
