   "We have listened to hundreds of people who have struggled with these unwanted behaviors and it is clear that any notion that suggests you can provide a 'cookie cutter approach' to treatment is unfair to the individual," said Bloch. "The treatment team, loved ones and the patient all have to treat these unwanted behaviors as disorders, not character flaws. The true measure of our success will be the capacity of our treatment team to form a treatment alliance that empowers the individual throughout the treatment process to take full responsibility for their recovery, while promoting physical and emotional health."
   
   Bloch has served as a consultant on eating disorders for a variety of treatment programs, including school districts, and was the former director of the Rader Institute, one of the first programs to recognize the need and provide intensive eating disorder treatment. Prior to moving to Lawrence, Kan., in 2000, he was an instructor in eating disorders treatment and counseling methods at Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Psychology in Malibu, Calif. He has traveled extensively throughout the country conducting professional workshops on eating disorder treatment. Bloch received his master of social work degree from Columbia University.
