The announcement, which reached NCCBI members Friday in an e-mail from Blizzard, comes less than a month after the organization's chief executive officer, Phil Kirk, also resigned.
...
"After careful thought and consideration of my future and my family, I have decided to accept an opportunity being offered by a development company to join their team here in the Raleigh area," Blizzard wrote. "Please know that my decision is not really a decision to 'leave' NCCBI but rather a decision to accept a golden opportunity - one that I have formerly hesitated upon - but now believe is in my best long-term interest."
Blizzard told Triangle Business Journal on Friday that he had accepted a position with Turnpike Properties, a real estate developer based in Winston-Salem.
"It's actually an offer that I had received before going to NCCBI," Blizzard said, "and it has come around for a second time."
Blizzard said he expects to finish his work at NCCBI by March 17.
"I told NCCBI's CEO, Barry Eveland, that I hated the timing of this," Blizzard said, "but at the end of the day, I have to protect my interests and I have to protect my family's interests ... It's just the type of opportunity that doesn't come around very often."
In his new capacity, Blizzard said he will be "learning how to put together developments - both residential and commercial."
Blizzard, who is the former chief of staff for Senate President Pro Tempore Marc Basnight, replaced Leslie Bevacqua Coman as NCCBI's top lobbyist in 2004. -
