Accepting on his behalf was his wife, Arlene Gray Blix.

Dr. Blix was born and raised in Central Butte, Saskatchewan, Canada. His family was not wealthy, but they wanted him to have the best education possible, so his school teacher/mother home-schooled him for the first four grades. After three years in a one-room school, public school, and finally academy, he graduated with his high school degree in 1962.

    ...
Dr. Blix particularly enjoys designing and drafting projects, and then bringing them to reality.

He always wanted to go to college but was delayed for a time, during which he worked in marketing for a newspaper and in a sawmill. Finally, he received the opportunity to go to La Sierra College (now La Sierra University).

While at La Sierra, Dr. Blix completed a double major in speech/communication and religion, graduating in 1970. He also started working in the maintenance department for Loma Linda Foods. Before long, he was promoted to supervisor of the maintenance department.

    ...
Loma Linda Foods asked Dr. Blix to move to Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to serve as plant manager and rebuild the soy milk processing plant. He became interested in infant formula production and persuaded Loma Linda Foods to become involved in the Infant Formula Council. He soon became active in that trade association, serving on its board and as its president for three years.

Loma Linda Foods asked him to return to the La Sierra plant and serve as vice president for research and development.

    ...
Dr. Blix graduated in 1987, became coordinator of the off-campus program, and three years later director of the doctoral program he had recently completed.

Along the way, he became a United States citizen.

While teaching an off-campus course in Portland, Oregon, he met a student named Arlene Gray. In October of 1988, during one of the school's annual student faculty retreats, Dr. Blix surprised Ms. Gray with a musical proposal, sung in front of those attending the retreat.
    ...
Dr. Blix received the William Dysinger Award for Excellence in Teaching Award in 1999 and is a member of Delta Omega, the national public health honor society. In addition to his many professional accomplishments, he has been active in his church community, serving as church elder, teacher, and school board chair.

    ...
His wife, Arlene, accepted on his behalf the award and applause of his colleagues, students, and friends.
