Muffie Bliss was named head coach of McDaniel's field hockey and women's lacrosse teams following a successful stint as the interim coach of the women's lacrosse team in the spring of 2004.

The Green Terror made its first Centennial Conference playoff appearance under Bliss in 2004. That was followed by a run to the ECAC Championship Semi-Finals. McDaniel had just one winning women's lacrosse season in the previous four years. As the interim coach, Bliss also spearheaded McDaniel's recruiting efforts for field hockey.
"I am really excited about getting both teams ready for their upcoming seasons," said Bliss at the time of her hiring. "We have proven to be competitive in both sports. Now I want these teams become NCAA playoff regulars, and continually move deeper in the tournaments."
Bliss began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at McDaniel in the fall of 2003, immediately following a successful academic and athletic career at Goucher College . She completed her Master's in Education at McDaniel in the summer of 2004.
Bliss was a three-time All-Conference selection in field hockey, and a two time pick in lacrosse. She received All-Region honors on the lacrosse field, and was selected to play in that sport's North/South Senior All-Star Game featuring the nation's top athletes. She was also a three-time field hockey captain, and two-year lacrosse captain for the Gophers.
Her arrival on the Hill helped the field hockey team to its first-ever Centennial Conference championship and NCAA Playoff berth. As a first year coach, she assisted with coordinating the team's defense. Her unrivaled work ethic translated into tangible success as McDaniel boasted one of the nation's best defenses, which surrendered just 0.64 goals per game.
