Bliss joins Phillies organization
Former Franklin High School baseball standout Bill Bliss accepted a coaching position recently with the Philadelphia Phillies' organization.
Bliss, 36, will serve as the pitching coach for the Batavia (N.Y.) Muckdogs, a Class A affiliate for the Phillies in the New York-Penn League. He will also be involved with international scouting.
Bliss spent the past four years as an area supervisor for the Baltimore Orioles. He was in charge of the southwestern United States and is currently residing in Phoenix, Ariz.
He will be with the Phillies when the team reports to Clearwater, Fla., for spring training in February.
A third-round pick of the Chicago Cubs in the 1991 draft, Bliss battled arm problems throughout his minor league career.
He has, however, managed to stay close to the game and this season will be his 12th in professional baseball. Bliss said he hopes to one day become a general manager.
