Stuart to blaze a trail for charity Stuart Blight garden centre manager at Hillier Hemel Hempstead will be cycling in support of the Macmillan cancer support on Friday, October 12.
On the road: Stuart Blight, manager at Hillier Hemel Hempstead, will cycle 60 miles for charity. Starting at Hillier garden centre Winchester, going across Hampshire to Hillier garden centre at Liss then heading to into West Sussex and on to Hillier garden centre at Horsham, he aims to complete the "quite hilly" ride in five hours.
He will cover approximately 60 miles on a course, which tracks the South Downs, at a speed, he estimates, of 12 miles per hour.
Mr Blight told diyweek.net he's not a particularly seasoned cyclist, but fell into it after "too many injuries playing football."
He will be accompanied by the manager of the Newbury site, Nick Robey; while operations manager Mark Pitman will follow in a support car.
To-date he has received donations from suppliers including Westland Horticulture, Suttons, and Woodlodge Pots.
"I've been quite successful up to now raising £700," he said, "but with a bit of luck it will probably edge up towards £1,000."
He added: "The staff have been brilliant and sponsored me; lots of customers have helped too; they must be all looking forward to seeing me in lycra." -
