Neal Blewett appointed President of peak body
Dr Neal Blewett, AC has been appointed as the new President of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA).
"ADCA is the peak body representing the interests of the alcohol and other drugs sector nationally and I am looking forward to working with the ADCA Board, ADCA members and strategic partners to reduce the harm caused to the Australian community by the misuse of alcohol and other drugs," Dr Blewett said.
Retiring ADCA President, Professor Ian Webster, AO said today, "I am delighted that the ADCA Board has appointed Dr Blewett.

An active civil libertarian, Neal Blewett entered Federal Parliament in 1977.As Health Minister in the Hawke governments he was responsible for the introduction of Medicare and Australia's much praised HIV/AIDS program.He also oversaw the implementation of Australia's first National Drug Strategy.
Dr Blewett later served as Minister for Trade and Overseas Development and Minister for Social Security.In 1994 he became the Australian High Commissioner in London and from 1995-98 he served on the Executive Board of the World Health Organisation.
The ADCA Board met today for the first time under Dr Blewett's leadership.
