Indiana Historical Society Names Stanley Blevins to Development Staff

Indianapolis - The Indiana Historical Society has named Stanley Blevins director of corporate, foundation and government support. Blevins was foundation relations coordinator at the Indianapolis Museum of Art prior to joining the Indiana Historical Society.Previously he was associate university faculty and taught English at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis and was an English and writing instructor at Marian College in Indianapolis, Indiana University at Kokomo and Central Ohio Technical College in Newark, Ohio. Blevins holds Bachelor of Arts and Masters degrees in English from The Ohio State University.He serves on the board of the American Association of Museums (AAM) Development and Membership Executive Committee and is editor of the AAM's development and membership newsletter.Blevins is also active in the local arts community as a painter with studio space at the Stutz building in downtown Indianapolis.His work may be found in private and corporate collections locally and nationally.Since 1830, the Indiana Historical Society has collected, preserved, interpreted and disseminated Indiana history.The independent, nonprofit organization also publishes books and periodicals; sponsors teacher workshops; provides youth, adult and family programming; and assists local historical groups throughout the state.One of the oldest historical societies in the United States, the Indiana Historical Society has more than 11,000 members, making it the third largest historical society in the country.The Society opened a new 165,000-square-foot headquarters in downtown Indianapolis in July 1999.
