   Director of Maryville City Schools Mike Dalton has named Scott Blevins to replace Linda Irwin, who is retiring after 33 years with the Maryville City School system.

   Blevins began his teaching career at Fort Craig Elementary School in 1987. He taught mostly in the third and fourth grades.
   
   When the student population of Fort Craig moved to Foothills Elementary in 1994, Blevins went as well. A year later, he became the technology coordinator at Foothills. In 2000, the duties of assistant principal were added to his position.
   
   Blevins said he is excited to be taking on his new role as principal at Sam Houston Elementary.

   Blevins said he hopes to make a smooth transition in the administration and has no plans to make any changes unless necessary. He said Irwin left the school in great shape.
   
   "I'm very fortunate to have the opportunity to step into a situation like this," he said.
   
   Blevins lives in Maryville with his wife, Mary.

   "It went amazingly well this morning, and we got a few new students registered," said Sam Houston Elementary School Principal Scott Blevins.
   
   That sentiment was echoed by other principals in the school system.
   
   "Our numbers are up slightly," Blevins said. "We had a large kindergarten enrollment."
   
   The kindergarten students won't actually start until Tuesday, and Blevins said there will probably be a few more to arrive.

   Blevins said he thought his students were glad to be back with their friends and in a routine, but getting up for the first day was hard.
   
   "Monday morning blues even on Thursday morning," Blevins said.
