The agreement was for $365,000, with the CEDC to provide water and sewer to the development, said Johnny Blevins, president and owner of Kingdom Perspectives.
...
While an agreement has not yet been finalized with the Myrtle Springs Water Supply Corporation Board of Directors to release water rights to the City of Canton, Blevins and CEDC board members seem certain the closure of the agreement is at hand.
...
Blevins said he is excited about the likelihood of the water park being constructed during the next 14 months and ready to open for business in May 2006.
"I'm excited not only for my wife and myself, but I am also excited for the people of this city and county," he said, "because it will be a great economic boom to the area and will provide a great place for families to have fun."
Blevins was a tennis coach and assistant girls basketball coach at Van in the early 1990s.
He said Splash Kingdom, as the water park will be called, will have 100 to 125 employees during the summer months, mostly high school and college students.
In addition to income from admission to the park, Splash Kingdom will also have a concession stand and a retail shop offering swimsuits, sports clothing and other items.
He said rooms will be available to be rented for corporate meetings, reunions, etc.
He said he already knows who the major contractors are for the project. He said some are local and some are from as far away as Mexico and Ohio.
Plans are for the water park to have a 17,000-square-foot wave pool, a 60-foot slide tower with four slides, a 1,000-foot lazy river and a large children's area with a castle.
He said Splash Kingdom will be similar to NRH20, a water park in North Richland Hills, and Hawaiian Falls in The Colony.
Blevins said the delays caused by negotiations with Myrtle Springs really turned out to be a blessing. -

In a press release Thursday from Johnny Blevins of Kingdom Perspectives, LLC, he announced the excitement surrounding the new water park in Canton may be a passing hope.
In the press release, Blevins pointed out in his early negotiations with the city of Canton, exhaustive research by the city determined it could supply adequate water and sewer for the project without causing undue strain on the current infrastructure or creating a potential shortage for citizens.
...
"I'm disappointed in the fact that this is even an issue because in our entire conversations with the CEDC and others associated with the city there was never a question we would have water," Blevins said in a telephone interview Thursday afternoon.
"In my thought process, and this may sound one sided, if someone can't provide the water service, then they may need to let it go," he added. -
