John Steven Blevins of Sacramento - know affectionately as "Coach," for his more than 19 years leading Davis High School's wrestling team, as well as teams in other sports - died Jan. 8, 2004, in Sacramento, with family at his side, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.He was 64.
He was born Aug. 10, 1939, in Orofino, Idaho.After earning a master's degree from Chico State University in 1969, he spent the next 30 years teaching physical education.
His real passion was coaching.In addition to wrestling, he coached golf, baseball and football.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, playing softball and collection root beer memorabilia.
