Patricia Blenkiron, EdD, RD, CDE -- an expert in weight control and diabetes management -- is an associate professor in the Culinary Nutrition Program at J&W's Providence Campus.A registered dietitian and a certified diabetes educator, she has been at Johnson & Wales since 2000.In that time, she has made an impact on both students and her colleagues; she received the peer-selected Foodservice Academic Service Award in 2002 and the Nutrition Service Award in 2003.
Blenkiron came to Johnson & Wales from the Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, where she was program director for the HealthLink Project.Prior to this, Blenkiron served as manager of the Health Education and Nutrition Department at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of New England (HPHC/NE) based in Providence.She was a visiting lecturer in Nutrition at the Department of Health and Physical Education at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Mass. Other credits include Nutrition Counseling at the Children's Hospital Medical center in Boston, Mass. Throughout her career, she has written several articles and given many presentations on diabetes, weight control, health education and nutrition.In addition, she co-authored "Nutrition: A Culinary Approach Workbook," (Kendal-Hunt, 2005) with her colleagues Janet Rouslin and Mary Anne Eaton.
Blenkiron is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Rhode Island Dietetic Association, and a board member of the Rhode Island Department of Health Obesity Task Force Advisory Committee.She holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Bridgewater (Mass.) State College; a master's degree in Food and Nutrition from Framingham (Mass.) State College; a certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Bryant College; and a doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University.
