   In a subsequent conference workshop about affordable housing, moderator David Bleich, the director of CSUN's Center for Real Estate, told an apocryphal story about a college student who graduated in 2000 and determined to save $1,000 a month in order to afford the cost of a down payment. Five years later, he had saved $60,000, enough for a down payment on a $250,000 home, but by then median home prices had risen to over $400,000.
