   Nelson C. Bledsoe is historically significant for his pioneering efforts in medicine. As a physician, Bledsoe began his medical practice in Bisbee in 1904. He worked for thirty years as chief surgeon for the Calumet and Arizona Mining Company (now known as the Phelps Dodge Corporation), after receiving his degree from the University of Southern California in 1903.
