Johnston County building inspector Mike Bledsoe wrote in an e-mail to Ann Williams that his department would not recommend painting ceiling tiles because it does not know how they will affect fire safety.

In a subsequent phone interview with The Clayton News-Star, Bledsoe said, "If it (the project) goes through the school systems and there are support tests (regarding fire safety), we have no problem waiving our recommendation not to do it."
