WALTER J. BLECHARCZYK PROVIDENCE -- Walter J. Blecharczyk, 81, of Highland Trial, Hope Valley, and formerly of Wannamoisett Road, East Providence, died at home Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002.He was the husband of Mary L. (Fillo) Blecharczyk; they were married 51 years. Born in New Bedford, Mass., he was the son of the late Joseph and Karolina (Widelski) Blecharczyk. Mr. Blecharczyk was a technical director at Davol Inc. in Cranston for 47 years until retiring in 1990. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a 1942 graduate of Rhode Island State College, now URI.Mr. Blecharczyk was president and served on the board of directors for Citizens League of East Providence and was a charter member of Aristotlean Ethics Association and the Wampanoag Association of East Providence.He was also president of the Rhode Island Rubber Club and served on the National Board of the American Chemical Society. He was a semi-pro football player with the former Providence Steamrollers, and while at Rhode Island State College, he played football under Frank W. Keaney.
