HEALTH BOARD - Dr. Stephen S. Blecharczyk of Pinehurst, a retired engineer, has been appointed to the Moore County Board of Health.
He succeeds Warren I. Wells, who recently resigned from the board.
Blecharczyk retired in 1900 after serving 15 years with R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. as manager and technical director. He is a former faculty member at the University of Rhode Island, where he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in chemical engineering and a doctorate in analytical chemistry.
The Moore County Board of Commissioners made the appointment during the March 17 meeting. State law requires that an engineer serve on the Health Board, and the commissioners delayed the appointment a couple of months while they looked for an engineer willing to serve in that capacity.
