Personal Profile: Bleakney became paralyzed after a fall during a mountain biking race in the fall of 1995. Shortly after his accident, a friend who raced wheelchairs recreationally gave Bleakney the chance to jump in the chair and try it out; he was hooked. Bleakney got involved in wheelchair racing not long after that and has proven himself as a top contender ever since. Bleakney competed in the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney and has won numerous wheelchair races throughout the U.S., including the Chicago Marathon in 2002.
