   SHIPROCK - The proposed $80,000 annual salary for Navajo Division of Diné Education executive director nominee Karen Dixon Blazer is excessive, Navajo Council Delegate Wallace Charley said Monday.

   The Council will hold its summer session July 21 to 25 at the Council Chambers in Window Rock, Ariz. It is not known if the review process and required documents will be submitted in time for Blazer's nomination to appear before the Council.
   
   Blazer worked this spring for the Farmington Municipal School District as a teacher recruiter and was paid with a federal grant.
   
   Blazer had been the executive director of Navajo Prep in Farmington and fought to get funding for the new dormitories before being terminated by the school board in April 2002.

   Blazer, who is scheduled to start work on July 9, has some 27 years of combined experience in teaching and administration in Navajo education, much of it in the Shiprock and Farmington areas.
   
   Most recently she was working in the Transition to Teaching Grant program for the Farmington public school system. Before that, however, she served stints as director of the Navajo Preparatory School in Farmington and the Shiprock Alternative School.
   
   She has also been director of the Laguna Pueblo Department of Education and ahs worked as an educational consultant for the Mescalero Apache Tribe.
   
   She holds a bachelor's degree in physical education and health from Utah State University and a master's degree in educational administration from New Mexico State University. She is currently working toward a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from New Mexico State University.
