Gerard Blay , a press spokesperson for Genuity , told Newsbytes that the Integra acquisition coincides with the expansion of Genuity into Europe with a major data center.
The Amsterdam data center was announced earlier this year , he said , adding that the center should be open by later in the summer. The Amsterdam center is the first of four planned non-U.S. data units for the company in the U.K. , the Netherlands and France.
The international data center expansion program forms part of a larger four-year scheme that will cost the company between $7 billion and $9 billion.
The scheme is being partly financed by Genuity investor Verizon , which has extended the company a $900 million credit line.Genuity is also looking to raise a further $2 billion from various sources.
