Forrest Blauvelt, 92, of Thedford died Jan. 24, 2004, at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Mullen. Funeral services were Jan. 27, 2004 at the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Thedford. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Thedford. Forrest Earl Blauvelt was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Alexandria. He moved as an infant with his parents, Leslie and Ethel (Woods) Blauvelt to a homestead six miles southwest of Thedford, which belonged to his grandfather Sylvester. One had to live on a homestead three years before you could claim ownership. He graduated from Thomas County High School. As a youngster, Forrest helped his father drive hogs (50 sows at a time) and cattle into Thedford where they were loaded onto a train and shipped to Omaha.

In 1930, Forrest married Ruth Harrell.
    ...
Forrest built his first house without plumbing, running water or electricity. He bought their first car, a 1924 Ford.

To this union two children were born. Forrest ranched and worked on the Burlington Railroad until 1955 when he moved into Thedford and built their home and a house on either side of theirs.

Forrest built many homes in and around Thedford, Brownlee, Stapleton, Mullen, Seneca, and Purdum along with his good friend John Armstrong.
    ...
Forrest also was the city umpire for many ballgames during the 50's and 60's. He loved to travel. One of the highlights was his mission's trip to Panama, Central America. He supervised building a church and taught a local Panamanian boy the art of laying cement blocks. As he was leaving Panama he gave all his tools to the boy.

Forrest and Ruth flew to Alaska on their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
    ...
Forrest received Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1928 and became a charter member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Thedford. He served on the church board and used his carpenter skills to keep the church in good repair.

Forrest was preceded in death by his parents.
