   Andrew Blauvelt is Design Director and Curator at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Since 1998 he has provided creative direction for the Walker's innovative graphic identity across various media platforms, oversees its publications program and design studio, and organizes design-related exhibitions and programs.The Walker's design work is the recipient of more than 80 design awards, including numerous selections for the AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers competition, and has been profiled in such magazines as I.D., Eye, Print, and Metropolis.The recipient of many honors, the studio has been nominated for the Chrysler Award for Design Innovation and the National Design Awards in Communication, and has been exhibited at the Design Museum, London.
   
   As a writer and critic of design and culture, his articles have appeared in numerous journals and publications.An educator for more than 12 years, Blauvelt has been a visiting professor in the graduate design programs of the Jan van Eyck Akademie (The Netherlands), the University of the Americas (Mexico), the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota, and was interim-head of design at Cranbrook Academy of Art (USA), where he received his MFA in Design (1988).He was Associate Professor of Graphic Design, and served as director of graduate studies and department chair at the College of Design, North Carolina State University, from 1991-1998.His research focuses on the role of design in contemporary life and draws extensively upon work in such fields as material cultural studies, learning theory, media studies, and communication theory.
