    Dr. Nancy Blattner , chairperson of the University Planning Committee and professor of English , informed the group of about 25 individuals , that she and her staff were holding the forum to discuss ways of improving.I apologize for not being able to do more than just listen and respond , however , I promise that all the concerns will get to the individuals and departments in which they need to be delivered , she said.

    A Vision Statement was presented to the students along with a paper defining the Mission , Role and Scope of the Center as seen by Southeast Missouri State University.

    Within the document is stated the University's goals of encouraging the development of the intellect of each student ; assisting traditional and non-traditional students in selecting the appropriate goals in education ; and offering forums of this nature for students to offer input into their own education.

    During the forum , students addressed many similar issues , including the lack of particular classes when needed and the lack of daytime or weekend classes.

    Blattner said that she would discuss the issue of incorporating more hours for degrees into the two- and three-day scheduling , making it more accessible for non-traditional students.

    As the Center expands , so will the opportunities for classes locally , Blattner said.I don't blame any of you for wanting to utilize this beautiful building for your classes and that was its design when it was opened - higher education classes locally..

Blattner is Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs at Fontbonne University where she is responsible for faculty issues, all undergraduate and graduate programs, the library, the academic support center, the registrar's office and institutional research and assessment.Prior to her arrival at Fontbonne in July 2004, Dr. Blattner was the Associate Provost for Graduate and Support Programs at Longwood University in Farmville, VA, where she also served as an American Council on Education Fellow with Longwood President Patricia Cormier in 2002-2003.Before her time at Longwood, Dr. Blattner spent more than 20 years at Southeast Missouri State University as a tenured professor in the Department of English.At SMSU, she also served as Academic Associate in the Office of the Provost and as Associate Dean of the School of University Studies.Dr. Blattner completed the Harvard Management Development Program in 1999, a leadership institute designed for higher education personnel.She joined Phi Kappa Phi as a doctoral student at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 1991 and is a charter member of the Southeast Missouri State University chapter.

    Dr. Nancy Blattner, academic associate in the office of the provost and associate dean in the School of University Studies at Southeast Missouri State University, has been named an American Council on Education Fellow for the 2002-2003 academic year.

    In addition to her administrative duties, Blattner also is an English professor at Southeast.

    The ACE Fellows program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen institutions and leadership in American higher education by identifying and preparing promising faculty and senior administrators for positions in college and university administration.

    Thirty-seven Fellows, nominated by the presidents or chancellors of their institutions, were selected this year in a nationwide competition.

    The Fellows Program has had nearly 1,350 participants in its 37-year history.More than 250 have become chief executive officers and nearly 1,000 have become provosts, vice presidents or deans.
