J.C. Blass Graduate Assistant Baseball Coach
Former Embry-Riddle baseball player J.C. Blass enters his second season as a graduate assistant coach with the Embry-Riddle baseball program. Blass earned four letters with the Eagles and is one of only two student-athletes in ERAU history to make three consecutive appearances at the NAIA World Series.
Blass' on-field responsibilities include assisting with the pitching staff, charts, throwing batting practice, field maintenance and serving as an instructor for the TeamGuill baseball camps.
Described by the Guilliams brothers as one of the smartest players to wear the Embry-Riddle uniform, Blass ended his four-year career with a 9-2 record with a 2.24 ERA, including two saves and 63 strikeouts in 88.1 innings.
Blass played high school ball at Oviedo High School where he played for Kenne Brown, Harold Hitt and Rick Eckstein. Blass earned honorable mention All-Conference honors as a senior and led the Lions to the 6A State Final Four in 2000. He led the Seminole Athletic Conference in ERA with 1.51, posted a 10-2 record in his last two years and was selected Who's Who Among High School Students.
"J.C. has been a nice addition to our coaching staff," Guilliams said. "Not only does he understand our system after playing here for four years, but is also able to provide some fresh ideas. I trust his opinion and we are very excited to have him."
In addition to his responsibilities with the Eagles, Blass is also the head coach of the 12 and Under Ormond Beach Golden Spikes AAU team. In his three-year tenure he has led the Golden Spikes to a 53-18 record, including back-to-back titles at the South Daytona Bash at the Beach Tournament and a Final Four appearance in a field of 48 teams in the AAU State Championship in May, 2005.
Blass completed his undergraduate degree in Aviation Business Administration in 2004 and is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration at the University of Central Florida.
