   Pamela Blanks, founder of MMI, said the center will have a computer lab, a media and arts lab, a reading café lab, and a career development and testing unit. MMI seeks volunteers, mentors and part-time state board-certified teachers. Full background checks on all volunteers and staff are required.
   
   "We believe that some students have a special need and can benefit and flourish, given the proper support and training to enhance their skills and self-esteem," Blanks said.
