Dale Virgil Blanchard of Solon, John H. Greene Jr. of Pierpont Township, and Bill O'Neill of South Russell Village are vying to be their party's nominee.
...
Blanchard, an accountant who works from his home in Solon, said his main priority is to propose and support legislation that would create an environment that leads to faster rates of economic growth."Working with dozens of businesses every year, I see the impact of strong and soft markets on businesses," he said."The state of these markets is what drives jobs, wages and profits.I want to go to Congress to strengthen our markets."Blanchard wants to work on Social Security reform, mandate that employers provide health care and redevelop cities to make them attractive to middle-class Americans. He proposes creating a Rust Belt Congressional Caucus composed of members of the Senate and House of Representatives from slow-growing sections of the country, to help propose and support legislation to increase capital investment in these areas.Blanchard said he wants to bring the war in Iraq to an end with an American victory that will set up a prosperous, democratic, capitalistic nation of laws that will become the envy of the Middle East.GreeneThis is Greene's first attempt at the congressional post.He is president of the United Steelworkers of America Local 557L, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in the Vietnam War and a retired small-business owner.
