Romy Binungcal, 43, Bataan correspondent for Remate and Bulgar, two Manila-based tabloids, shot five times on September 29, 2004, as he was riding his motorcycle.He was former editor of the local paper, Mt. Samat Weekly Forum.

Eldy Gabinales, also known as Eldy Sablas, radio commentator of DXJR-FM in Tandag, Surigao del Sur, shot three times from the back on October 19, 2004.He was loudly opposed to the alleged illegal drug trade and illegal gambling in his town.
