Dr. Roy Bichan

Dr Roy Bichan has been a business category member of the Corporation Board since 2001.A director of several companies, he is also past Chairman of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) for Wales and is a member of the North Wales Economic Forum.

Following a doctorate in geology at Leeds University, Dr Bichan joined the Robertson Consulting Group in North Wales in 1968 at which time the Group employed about 40 people.He was appointed Managing Director of Robertson Australia for 5 years before returning to the UK in 1974.Operations expanded worldwide and the group became one of the world's largest natural resource (petroleum and minerals) and environmental consultancy companies.Dr. Bichan played a major role in the group's rapid expansion when it became a public company on the London Stock Exchange in 1984, at which time he became Deputy Chief Executive, subsequently Chief Executive and finally Executive Chairman.

When the group was acquired by Simon Engineering plc in May 1991, Roy Bichan was appointed non-executive Deputy Chairman and also became a consultant to Simon Engineering plc.Since 1991 he has been self-employed as an investor and/or director of a number of companies.He has also served as Chairman of CBI Wales, Deputy Chairman of the Welsh Development Agency and Chairman of the Welsh Industrial Development Advisory Board.He is on the Board of Clinical Diagnostic Chemicals Ltd and is Chairman of Force Petroleum Ltd.He became Group Chairman of kmc Holdings in 2004.
