Mr. Markand Bhatt is 55years in age and has obtained his Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in the year 1969.He commenced his professional career with reputed organizations like Mafatlals and Gujarat Agro Industries.Later on he practiced as a Management Consultant and was associated with various premier government organizations and private groups such as Torrent, Nirma, Cama, Raymonds, etc.He has been an advisor and active participant in the strategic planning for Torrent Group for over a decade.

As Managing Director of Gujarat Torrent Energy Corporation Limited (GTEC), Mr. Bhatt was instrumental in the successful implementation of the 655 MW dual fuel Combined Cycle Power Project, within budgeted costs and estimated time frames at a cost of Rs.2247 crores. GTEC was divested in 1999 for strategic reasons under his leadership. Mr. Bhatt, who became the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Torrent Group in 1999, was actively involved in the consolidation phase (1999-2003) of the Torrent Group.
