Marie Betti, CEO of Western New York FCU and a League board member, presented the annual award to the highly esteemed representative.

"Congresswoman Slaughter is a strong proponent of progressive causes including education and community development initiatives, areas of interest that dovetail with credit union philosophy" said Betti during the presentation.

Betti also talked about the Representative's ongoing support of credit unions, the close relationships she has formed with credit union leaders in her district, meeting with them in Washington and New York, and that she is one of 14 New York State co-sponsors of the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (CURIA-H.R.1537).

Councilman Osmanski asked for clarification on the status of the two-story frame house at 475 East & West Road.

Mrs. Betti responded that the Credit Union purchased that property also.

Mrs. Betti responded they would terminate the lease if the structure posed a problem in the placement of the Credit Union building.

Mrs. Betti responded that the main sponsor for the Credit Union was the Developmental Center.The Willowdale location had been chosen because they did not want to move too far away from the Center.Other locations had been considered, but they wanted the Credit Union to be located between Reserve and the 400 to accommodate West Seneca residents and the employees at the DDSO and the Childrens' Psychiatric Center.

Mrs. Betti stated the Credit Union is open 9 to 5, Monday through Friday.

Mrs. Betti responded that she had looked into that building and contacted Wegman's several years ago.It was intended at that time to be a Chase Bank but was never opened.That was a lease situation, but the Credit Bureau has limited income and needs to own rather than lease a building.

Councilwoman Bove also was advised there were people within the building who would be out of work as well and offered Mrs. Betti a contact name for potential hires in the future.She felt the Orchard Park Road location was a better fit since it was already a bank and would be vacated.

Mrs. Betti responded that she was unaware of the size of that particular building.

Attorney Morris Horwitz represented the Western New York Federal Credit Union and introduced Marie Betti, General Manager for the credit union, and Architect Planner John Lydon, an Architect at Left Coast Design Studio Architecture, P.C.

Mrs. Betti responded that Northwest Savings Bank on Union Road, First Niagara Bank on Orchard Park Road, and Evans National Bank were all similar with reddish brick, a gabled roof, and white columns at the entrance.She noted that a credit union was more personal than a national bank and did not have the money that a national bank had, so the size of the building would be smaller.

Mrs. Betti responded that there was a two-year lease on the home and she was not sure it could be terminated.

Mrs. Betti noted that the Union Road ingress/egress was already in place; the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) installed it when Union Road was reconstructed.

Mrs. Betti responded that the credit union would be open Monday - Friday, 8 A.M. - 5 P.M.They may also open on Saturday mornings 9 A.M. - 12 P.M.

Mrs. Betti did not have a problem with the C-1(S) zoning classification as long as the drive-thru would still be permitted.
