The Istituto pays tribute to Laura Betti, the extraordinarily vivacious actress, director and singer who passed away on July 31, 2004, by showing two of her greatest films. One of her lead roles was in Pier Paolo Pasolini's Teorema, for which she was recognized as best lead actress at the Venice Film Festival in 1968. Though she also appeared in films directed by Roberto Rosellini, Bernardo Bertolucci, Marco Bellocchio e Alessandro Blasetti, her name has always been primarily associated with Pier Paolo Pasolini. In addition to writing a book on the famed director, she also made a documentary entitled Pier Paolo Pasolini e la ragione di un sogno, which was shown at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2002. She has directed the "Pier Paolo Pasolini Fund" since 1980.

(Italy, 1968, 90 min.) directed by Laura Betti. The film will be introduced by Gaviel Moses, UC Berkeley. This documentary, which was shown at the 2002 San Francisco International Film Festival, commemorates the multifaceted Pasolini as a great poet, director, novelist, critic and even prophet. It tells the story of his friendships, his relationships, his life in Rome, presenting images of his shy smile and the sound of his sharp voice. Laura Betti wrote of her film, "I made a film dreaming of Pier Paolo's words immersed in everything that no longer concerns him… I made a film - I still don't even know how it happened - because I wanted to see where he is." In Italian with English subtitles.
