   "It will be an amazing opportunity, and I'm extremely grateful," Betthauser said. "I'm really looking forward to getting back on the court. In high school, you aren't allowed to work with your players in the summer, so I'm anxious to get back out there, especially with the level of these athletes."
   
   Betthauser will enter her first season as head coach at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in 2006-07. She returned to Stevenson High School as an assistant coach in 2005-06 after serving two seasons as an assistant coach in 1994-95 and 1995-96. Overall, Betthauser has compiled an 88-15 record (.854 winning percentage) in three seasons (1994-95, 1995-96 and 2005-06) as an assistant coach at Stevenson.
   
   The 2005-06 season saw the Lady Patriots finish 21-12 to capture a regional championship and a sectional semifinals appearance. In her first stint as an assistant at Stevenson (1994-95 and 1995-96), she helped the Lady Patriots capture the program's only two state championships and a 67-3 overall record. Betthauser also helped coach Olympic and World Championship gold medalist Tamika Catchings, a member of the 2006 USA World Championship Team, during the 1994-95 season.
   
   She served five seasons (2000-01 through 2004-05) at Indiana University, her third coaching position under head coach Kathi Bennett, as IU recorded a mark of 72-74. She helped the 2001-02 Hoosiers capture the program's first-ever Big Ten Conference Tournament title and first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1995. After Bennett was sidelined by a car accident in February of 2002, Betthauser led the Hoosiers to a 2-1 record while acting as head coach, including an upset against No. 15 University of Minnesota.

   While at Evansville, Betthauser helped improve a 3-23 program in 1995-96 to 23-7 in 1999-00, capturing the best mark in program history.

   Betthauser also played for Bennett for four seasons (1988-89 through 1991-92) at Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and the Titans compiled a record of 72-26 (.735 winning percentage) while Betthauser was in uniform.

   In her senior season, 1991-92, Betthauser was her team's MVP and an All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) first team selection. In addition, she was a four-year All-WIAC Scholar Athlete and graduated Cum Laude in 1993.
   
   In the summer of 2006, Betthauser also is scheduled to conduct basketball camps for fifth through 12th grade girls through the Patriot Recreational Education Program.

   Tricia Betthauser, a Class of 1988 graduate and head basketball coach of Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Ill., said the Tomah tradition of pride will continue.
   
   "It takes great courage for an individual to join a team or a club or a sport in which you are given the responsibility of representing your school," she said.

   Trish Betthauser admits Kathi Bennett kicked her out of practice at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh more than a couple times.

   Betthauser was a captain, and if the team wasn't playing to Bennett's liking, well, Betthauser often got the boot.
   
   "But I learned valuable lessons from that," said Betthauser, associate head coach of the women's basketball team. "I think it's helped me become a leader."
   
   Betthauser has had to grow into a leader at a difficult time. After Bennett fractured a neck vertebra in a car accident in Bloomington Feb. 8, Betthauser will lead the Hoosiers until Bennett's undetermined date of return.
