WESTON - D.C. Everest School District activist Dan Bettger has been appointed to the School Board.

Bettger, 51, of Rothschild will take the place of Robert Fox, who resigned from his position because he's moving to Rib Mountain. Bettger was the citizen leader of the district's referendum committee in 2000, and has served on the Strategic Planning Committee twice.

He'll finish Fox's term, which will end in a year and two months.

"It's just an opportunity I appreciate having at a critical time for the district," Bettger said.

Wausau - Reality sets in for D.C. Everest seniors - [Cached Version]

The Reality Day idea was brought to D.C. Everest by School Board member Dan Bettger, who learned about it at a convention of school board members from across the state.
    ...
Bettger said that many students get caught in credit, tax and loan issues once they leave high school.

"We see issues related to this in what we do in lending," he said."I don't look at it as teachers missed it.I think (businesspeople) can look at it from a different viewpoint" - students often might listen to an outsider rather than teachers or parents, he said.

And holding the event at Stoney Creek gave it a little more oomph.

"It's a way to give students a feel for a business environment," Bettger said.
