During the first International Double Bass Competition and Workshop, August 1978, John Bethell conducted 'The Elephant' from Saint-Saëns' 'Carnival of the Animals' played by 48 double bass players on the Lower Promenade, Port Erin.The occasion was filmed for a BBC2 documentary, 'The Great Double Bass Race'.
