This announcement was made by BBCC President, Dr. Baltron B. Bethel at the agreement signing on Tuesday at the college on Jean Street.

"Under the terms of the agreement, with Berkeley College the graduates in the Associate of Arts degree programme of this college will transfer with full credits to Berkeley and they will be able to complete the Bachelor's programme at Berkeley within a maximum of two years," said Bethel.

He said that he was particularly pleased about the partnership because Berkeley "has an outstanding reputation for offering a well-rounded higher education programme".

Apart from this, Bethel said that Berkeley was a leading tertiary institution in the field of computer technology in the United States.

"They combine academic excellence with practical application and offer professional training in addition to the academic theory," he said.

Bethel added that he was also pleased with the arrangement because the partnership was pursued by Berkeley after being impressed by the performance of graduates of BBCC that are presently attending BBCC.

He said Berkeley College was only one of a number of colleges that BBCC has partnership arrangements with as "the credits of this institution are being widely accepted at accredited institutions in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, United Kingdom".

Also on hand at the signing was Latia Bowe, the former Miss Bahamas World who was awarded an academic scholarship by Dr. Bethel to complete her Associate of Arts degree in Accounting at BBCC.

"In recognition of Miss Bowe's outstanding performance and contribution during her reign as Miss Bahamas World and also recognizing her performance as a student at this institution, it gives me great pleasure on behalf of the institution to make an award, an academic scholarship to Miss Bowe and to wish her much success in the accomplishment of her career goal," said Bethel.

In expressing thank you to the college body, Bowe said it was difficult working full-time, performing duties as queen and being enrolled in four courses at the same time. She said however that at the end of the day she obtained a 3.50 GPA and "it does show that hard work pays off."
