"Layered Histories: The Wandering Bible Of Marseille," an interactive sound and video environment installation created by Cynthia Beth Rubin with music for harpsichord and electronics created by Bob Gluck, will be on exhibit in the Allan & Leah Rabinowitz Gallery at JOSEPH SLIFKA CENTER for Jewish Life at Yale, 80 Wall Street, New Haven, CT, from now through February 24, 2008.

As a collaborative work, Layered Histories reflects the differing layers of vision of its authors, Cynthia Beth Rubin (visuals & narrative) and Bob Gluck (music/sound, programming) in describing the experience of a timeless object which has seen history, much of the world, and has many stories to tell.

Cynthia Beth Rubin began experimenting with digital media in the early 1980's, and subsequently transitioned from painting to the electronic arts.Although trained as a painter in an era of abstraction, her work now incorporates strong historical and personal references.Working with photographs as a point of departure, Rubin's imagery recalls the cultural legacy of times and places beyond her own lifetime, referring to the subjective experience of memory.
Rubin was the recipient of the first individual artist's grant in New Media from the Connecticut Commission of the Arts, Rubin has also received numerous other awards, including grants from the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture, the New England Foundation on the Arts, and various artist residencies.Rubin's work has been featured in exhibitions across North America and around the world.Recent exhibitions include a duo show at the LeVall Gallery in Siberia, the New York Digital Salon, Pixxelpoint in Slovenia, ARCADE III (and II, which opened in England and traveled to Siberia and Belarussia), several editions of SIGGRAPH (2003 2002, 2001,1999,1995), and ISEA 2000 in Paris (and ISEA 1991, 1995, 1997).She has also exhibited in recent years in Brazil, Australia, the Netherlands, and Canada.

Rubin is a native of Rochester, NY and holds degrees from Antioch College and the Maryland Institute, College of Art (BA and MFA).She currently teaches part-time at the Rhode Island School of Design, and is active in professional organizations such as ISEA and SIGGRAPH.
