   Carly Beth Mountain, last year's Hernando County Shrine Queen and first runner-up in the 2001 Egypt Shrine Competition; representing the Active Patrol, in this year's pageant is selected queen and the recipient of a $2,500 education scholarship.

   At Hernando High School, Carly participated in her class activities and Student Alliance Counsel all four years. She was a member of varsity soccer her sophomore, junior and senior year and served as captain. She was a member of the National Beta Club and Key Club, Student Government secretary and a member of The Purple and Gold Press.
   
   Carly has been the recipient of many awards and honors including: being an honor roll recipient all four years, All Conference, named Lady Leopards Varsity Soccer's Most Improved Player her sophomore year, named to Who's Who Among American High School Students, placed second in State German Competition and received superior and excellences ratings during her tenure as a member of the Royal Regiment Marching Band.
   
   Dedicated to community service, Carly was a teacher's aide at the Methodist School Center in Brooksville, preceded by her volunteering at Brooksville Elementary School her freshman year. She was involved with the National Beta Club's Helping Families in Need Campaign; Key Club, visiting nursing homes; reading to children at Brooksville Elementary School and Big Brother Big Sister. Carly's hobbies include drawing, playing the flute, singing, photography, writing, babysitting and spending time with friends. Her favorite sport is soccer.
   
   Since graduating from Hernando High School, Carly is attending Pasco-Hernando Community College and plans to transfer to a university in pursuit of a degree in journalism and broadcasting. Her ambition later in life is to be a successful television journalist and then someday have a family. Carly is a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
   
   Joining the ranks of royalty, Carly finds herself in good company. She is preceded by Kathryn A. Heinecki, 2002 queen; Michelle Ehlenbeck, 2001 queen and Katy Hammond Egypt Shrine's 2000 Queen, all of which are from Hernando County. This year, four of Hernando County's beautiful and talented young ladies were among the eleven selected to participate in this year's competition.
