Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Edward J. Sr. and Mildred Mistichen Betack. He was a 1962 graduate of Blue Mountain High School and a 1971 graduate of West Chester University.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was employed for the past 10 years as a substitute teacher as in the Reading School District.
He was a member of Reading Kenhorst Boulevard Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he was the assistant sabbath-school superintendent and adult sabbath-school teacher.
