    Robert Best was Director of Modeling and Analysis for Yotta Networks, an optical start-up telecom company.He was responsible for simulation and analytical analyses of the various proposed architectures.As Network Planner for Nortel Networks he was involved in William Communication Group (WCG) Account Team, identifying and evaluating operation planning strategies.He also advised the COO and CFO for WCG on network economics and efficient strategies for the build out of that company's network.

    He also served as senior advisor on network economics where he headed a team of telecom professionals commissioned by the European Space Agency to forecast the multimedia telecom market in Europe.Before joining Nortel, he was with American Airlines Decision Technologies where he worked in researching and applying Yield Management tools for the airline industry.With Texas oil and Gas Corp he was responsible for Strategic Planning and with Sun Oil Company he managed a group responsible for planning and analysis of business operations.

    He has a Ph.D. in Operations Research and M.S. in Management and Administrative Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX.He also has a M.S. in Mathematics from Drexel University and a B.S. in mathematics from Bethany Nazarene College, in Bethany, TX.He has authored 5 conference papers, and has filed 3 patent/patent applications.

    Robin Best (41) has been appointed as First Great Western's new Station Manager for Plymouth and Totnes stations.He will help to further improve customer service and ensure the highest standards of safety for the hundreds of customers who travel through the stations every day.

    Robin joined First Great Western's customer service team 18 months ago as a Train Manager, based in Plymouth.His finely honed customer service skills are crucial in an industry where customer focus is a central component and are supplemented by his extensive training and development experience gained in earlier roles.Robin previously worked as a Service Quality Manager for First Great Western and as a Training Development Officer for Nortel Networks.His new role as Station Manager involves coordinating all areas of operations at Plymouth and Totnes stations including managing train dispatch and ticket office staff as well as customer information systems and the relay of information to customers.

    Robin says, "This new role as Station Manager will be an exciting and challenging one, as it is different to any of my previous positions, but it is one in which my skills and knowledge complement the role.One of my first jobs will be to work with the management team to increase visible staff presence at the stations, continuing and improving the great customer service already in place."

    He continues, "I am looking forward to working with the team of committed and professional staff at both Plymouth and Totnes, as well as helping to lead the team as we move towards the bidding process for the Greater Western franchise in 2006."
