   Robert Carl Best was described by his friends as the kindest person they knew. An avid hunter and golfer, Mr. Best spent many hours with his friends and family, but was also known in the metro Denver business community as a Realtor who was able to run a successful business.
   
   He died Oct. 15.

   Mr. Best was born in Denver on April 5, 1950, at St Luke's Hospital.
   
   Mr. Best graduated from the University of Colorado and started in business as the manager of the Rockmont Envelope Co. in Salt Lake City. After four years, he returned to Denver in 1978 and began selling real estate.
   
   From 1982 through 1986 he was part owner of RE/MAX Cherry Creek Inc. In 1987 he became vice president of Moore and Co., and from 1988 to 1989, Mr. Best was a broker at Kentwood Moore Co.
   
   He started his own company, Best Properties Ltd., in 1989, a "boutique" company offering a more personal approach. He also started Best Relocation Ltd.
   
   In February 2000, NRT, Coldwell Banker Real Estate, a national corporation bought Best Properties Ltd. Mr. Best continued to sell real estate and he kept Best Relocation Ltd.
   
   Mr. Best served as president of the Denver Cherry Creek Rotary Club and the Denver Junior Chamber of Commerce, and as a member of the board of trustees of the Lions Clubs' Savio House, a residential child care facility for wayward boys. Best was active in the Boy Scouts of America, a past ambassador for the Greater Denver Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the chamber's Leadership Roundtable. He also served on a committee at the International Golf Tournament.

   Many of the agents who worked with him said they tried to emulate Mr. Best.
   
   More than 300 people came to his memorial service. His friends recalled a man willing to do anything for them, sometimes at the expense of doing things for himself.

   Robert "Bob" Best, who died Oct. 15 of a heart attack on the driving range of a San Francisco golf course, was a devoted real estate broker who started two companies and planned to build a third. He was 53.

   Best began his Denver real estate career in 1978. By 1982, he was a part owner of Re/Max Cherry Creek and helped develop it into one of Denver's most successful real estate offices.

   Best kept in touch with clients long after the mortgage papers were signed. If clients had young children, he often showed up at their doorsteps around Christmastime, dressed as Santa Claus.
