John is now 66yrs of age, married with three children and eight grandchildren.After leaving the Marines he joined Cable and Wireless, later to become BT, his first retirement was at aged 50 and again at age 65 retiring from the MOD.

His hobbies are collecting militaria, cigarette and trade cards, stamps, model soldiers and genealogy.He is an avid reader and also collects books on military subjects, loves music especially jazz, classical and the tunes of the 50's and still finds time to be a member of Laleham Archery Club, Royal Marine Association, Royal British Legion and Western Front Association.
