There are a number of new options when it comes to 401(k) plans, says Joe Best, a retirement specialist with Unison Inc. in Minnetonka and a representative with Princor Financial Service.
Effective January 1, 2006, employers will be able to add a Roth 401(k) contribution to their plans.The Roth 401(k) will be similar to the existing Roth IRA.For example, an employee will be able to contribute after-tax contributions to the 401(k) plan with all of the earnings tax-free when distributed at retirement.
,This will give the employee the flexibility of determining how much of their annual contribution will be pre-tax vs. after-tax,, says Best.
