D. Keith Best, professor of theater arts, recently was elected chairman of the general faculty at Francis Marion University. He replaces professor of English Kenneth M. Autrey, who has served as faculty chairman since 2004. "I am honored to serve in this capacity, and I hope to live up to the standards of the previous chairs," Best said. Elections for vice chairman and secretary of the Faculty Senate will be held this month. Those two people also will serve in the same positions for the general faculty. The chairman, vice chairman and secretary will begin their one-year terms July 1. Best received the Shared Governance Award in 2005 for his commitment to the principles of shared governance between the faculty, administration and the board of trustees. He is a Florence resident and has been a member of the FMU faculty since 1993. A native of Valdosta, Ga., he earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts in theater at Valdosta State University in 1986 and a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Louisville in 1993. -

...
"It's a spoof of the spy mystery era," Best said.

Best became aware of the play when one of his friends was cast in a production of it for Theatre in the Square in Atlanta about a year ago. Though Best wasn't able to see the production for himself, his friend convinced Best that he'd be interested in the play.
"It was so popular that (Theatre in the Square) had to bring it back a couple of months later," Best said. "And, it sold out again.

"We did a production that had a smaller cast earlier in the year," Best said.
