Park Consultant Jim Bess of Otis Enterprises in Wanatah said he was able to solicit verbal commitments from volunteers and donors to raise $25,000 needed for matching funds for the $100,000 grant for making improvements at the park area that borders Landmark Acres.
Bess said volunteers agreed to help with bird, mammal, insect and plant surveys and other activities. Those hours volunteered would meet the bulk of the match costs by assigning a cost value to the hours, he said. Bess said the Shirley Heinze Fund organization and The Nature Conservancy also had agreed to donate $500 and $1,000 respectively to help with the match costs.
