Dr. Oren Beske, Head of Cell Biology, Virtual Arrays Inc.Virtual Arrays CellCard technology enables the simultaneous interrogation (multiplexing) of receptors in the same microtiter well. Our initial development of this system has focused on GPCRs.Using our encoded particle technology we have been able to mulitplex the identification of both agonists and antagonists to several families of GPCRs.Our data demonstrate that this technology can significantly decrease the amount of time, cost, and compound usage required to generate target specific hits. Our goal is to develop this technology to enable the multiplex screening of hundreds of receptors simultaneously, thereby providing an unprecedented insight into hit specificity in compound libraries, otherwise missed by conventional screens.

With Virtual Arrays' CellCard technology, simultaneous selectivity and potency data can be obtained from the same assay well," commented Oren Beske, Virtual Arrays' Head of Cell Biology."The ability of the CellCard system to characterize multiple cell lines in the same microtiter well enables researchers to understand and profile the activity of compounds along numerous dimensions, and thereby, further characterize and optimize these compounds."Dr. Beske presented the features and benefits of the CellCard System for the Company's podium presentation at the SBS meeting where the key focus was "High Information Content Screening."

Also at SBS, Virtual Arrays had two poster presentations, each of which highlighted different applications of its CellCard platform. The first, entitled "Multiplexed Cellular Analysis Using CellCard Arrays and a High Throughput Transfection Approach," demonstrated how Virtual Arrays' technology can be combined with reverse transfection to enable rapid generation of cellular arrays for a diversity of applications.

The second poster presentation further demonstrated the broad applicability and high information content capabilities of the CellCard technology. The poster was entitled "Multiplex Identification of Potent and Selective Anticancer Drugs Using CellCard Arrays."It described experiments where proliferation assays were multiplexed demonstrating the ability of the CellCard platform to generate specificity, selectivity and potency data within a single well.
