Marshall received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a major in accounting, and a law degree, both from the University of Minnesota.Marshall also graduated from the LLM program at New York University, with an emphasis in taxation.He has lectured for the University of Minnesota Paralegal program and is a past lecturer of Accounting for Lawyers at the William Mitchell Law School in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Marshall is a member of the Hennepin County, the Minnesota, and the American Bar Associations.He has been an active national committee member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and has served on several committees of the Minnesota Society of CPAs, including acting as Chairman of the Minnesota Society Accounting Careers Committee.During his tenure as Chairman, Marshall spearheaded a drive to bring a basic financial education fundamentals program to Minnesota high schools, and then worked with the AICPA to create a series of basic financial education lesson plans that are being taught in public schools throughout the United States.Marshall is an active member and / or estate planning and tax advisor on several Twin Cities non-profit foundation Boards.

Money Magazine cited Marshall as one of the "Best Tax Practitioners in the Nation", and he is the recipient of the Special Service Award presented only in years there is a qualified candidate, by the Minnesota Society of CPAs.

Marshall's areas of expertise are: family business consulting and succession planning; estate planning; various tax matters and tax planning for individuals, businesses, trusts, and foundations.
